We began
the Families in Crisis project
in April 2000. The purpose of this project is to improve the
living conditions of families who have to confront not only
deep poverty, but spiritual crisis as well. The post revolution
Romanian society's financial and spiritual decline has increased
alarmingly. It is at crisis level on both a local as well as
a national level.
When we
began this project, Osana Foundation focused on 10 poor families
with many children. We found these families living in an abandoned
barn. These families have no running water, electricity, heat,
plumbing, sewage, or place to collect their garbage. With some
support from World Vision we have begun to tackle a few of the
needs of these people. It is our goal to see these families
crawl out from under this crisis situation and to begin to take
back control of their own lives.
We are
accomplishing this by assisting with day to day needs when we
are able, by trying to help them improve the conditions at the
barn, by giving them food and clothing whenever possible, and
by assisting the parents in getting the children much needed
medical attention. With the help of a social worker and a pastor
at our local church we are trying to assist them in finding
jobs, and working at meeting some of their spiritual needs.
In 2001 we were able to assist 54 people
there are thousands
more just like them who need someone's help.
