Romania's economical situation has had great impact on the elderly population. Forgotten by society and most with families who are unable to help them due to their own needs not being met the elderly are forced to face poverty alone. Through the Margareta Project, which began in 1999 Osana Foundation is trying to address the problem that the Romanian elderly face. We are doing this by not only providing for their physical well being, but also by giving them a place to turn to for emotional support during this period in their lives when they have become another statistic in our country's dark chapter of poverty.
